Origin of bad smells

The concept of smell is very subjective. An odour is rarely associated with a single molecule; more often than not, it is a mixture of malodorous compounds that is perceived.

Many situations can be the source of malodours:

        •  Storage, treatment & decomposition of organic waste;

        •  Accumulation of dirt in tile joints;

        •  Sewage and stagnant water in drains, rainwater tanks, etc;

        •   Organic matter of human or animal origin: urine, excrement, vomit, etc;.

        •  Odours of dampness, stale air, hydrocarbons and burnt materials;

        •  Decomposition of bodies (animal or human);

        •  Perpiration, etc.
